I'm not sure how many crafters have been following all the controversy over the new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which essentially requires all products for children under the age of 12 to be stringently tested by a third party & permanently labeled. I first saw mention of it weeks ago on Etsy. It troubled me, but I thought it might not apply to me since I'm just one tiny individual, and since my handmade toys are not intended exclusively for children. But I've since learned that this act could be devastating for all the small businesses and crafters out there (like me) who make anything that could even be perceived to be for children under the age of 12. It's terrifying.
So I did something today that I had never done before... I wrote my representatives (both Congress & Senate). I also signed any petition I could get my (virtual) hands on and voted, voted, voted to get this issue amended.
